This week, as I was leaving the gym, I saw a vehicle with a bunch of stickers on the back. One was large and easily seen, which said, “Jesus was a LIBERAL.” WOW! What a statement, right? Now Jesus is a liberal. My first thought was, “No, He was probably a conservative.” Then I spent a few more seconds considering such a view and came to a more sane conclusion.
In this world, it would seem there is always a choosing of a side of some sort. It’s either:
– Conservative or Liberal
– Republican or Democrat
– Right wing or Left wing
– Gay or Straight
– Male or Female
– Foreign or Domestic
I’m hoping you’re getting my point. The consensus is that if you’re not on my side, then you’re wrong. To add even more silliness to the mix, people attempt to drag the Lord into the mix, as if that would solidify their position.
For example, with some extremes they make the claim that Jesus hates gays, of course this IS NOT the truth. Jesus, who is God in the flesh, of course hates ALL sin, including homosexuality, however the sinner is who Jesus died for and paid for their redemption by the shedding of His precious blood. It is now their choice to receive Him or reject Him. On the other side of the extreme, some claim that Jesus is completely fine with their abominable sinful lifestyle “choice.” However, again, although He died for their sin, does not mean He condones their sin. In this we can factor in many more transgressions the sinner commits against a holy God.
Here’s a truth…Jesus IS NOT a liberal, nor is He a conservative. Jesus does not choose a side to be on and wouldn’t be on anyone’s side if He were here today. On the contrary, He is THE side to be chosen by humanity. He is the way, the truth and the life. To attempt to lower the Lord of lords to our standard or our cause of the moment misrepresents who He is and what He is about. His first mission was that He came to seek and to save that which was lost going all the way back to the garden of Eden. All of creation was compromised in an instant when man decided to choose a side and that side was “self.”
By sending His Son, God provides man with a choice, a choice to live or a choice to die. To receive Christ is to live, to reject Christ is to die. This is a choice that every single person will make on their own. One day each will stand and give an account and there will be nobody to blame for their own choice.
Many will die arguing semantics, however while arguing “their” side, will not change their eternal destination. The choice is simple…”Your” side – “My” side – or “HIS” side?
